Root of All Evil

Kendrick Lamar says “Corrupt a man’s heart with a gift, that’s how you find out who you’re dealing with” (All the Stars). Money corrupts people, and with more money comes more power. It is a direct and linear relationship that has authored the destruction of good in various ways since the beginning of humanity. It is very sad to see how power and money can have such enormous negative impact on some individuals. There is a phrase popularized by Uncle Ben in Spider-Man but originally from French writer and philosopher, Voltaire, that comes to mind. “With great power comes great responsibility”. Very few take on that responsibility. If only we were reminded constantly of how fragile our life is and how we do not take a single dime when we die. Money, a necessary means but tempting evil. Wealth, a privilege often used to oppress the oppressed. If given the opportunity to possess any power, do good. Choose to do the right thing. Every. Single. Time. The world needs more responsible, integral, and compassionate leaders.
